Resumo: | The scientific literature reveals that a significant portion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has impaired reading comprehension despite evidencing good ability to decode writing. This paper aimed to describe the reading development process of a student with 9 year-old-ASD student, regularly enrolled in the 3rd grade of elementary school. Through a qualitative case study methodology, interviews were conducted with the student, here called the Reader, with his mother and his regular school teacher. The data were also composed of field diary records produced during regular classroom observations. Finally, a reading protocol was used, which aimed to evaluate the student's reading comprehension of expository texts. Convergent with the literature data, the investigated student had characteristics of hyperlexia and reading comprehension difficulties. |
