Resumo:The article aims to analyze the children's literature as a tool for literacy, considering the challenges and possibilities for its use in the classroom. The present study aims to understand the reasons that lead teachers using children's literature in a limited extent in the literacy process, at schools in Caicó/RN/Brazil. To carry out this investigation, it was used as methodology the qualitative research, seeking to know the dynamics within the classroom. Methodologically, the investigation started from questionnaires and observation, as well as bibliographical research anchored in: Abramovich (1993), Brasil (1998), Betty Rabbit (1986), Elias Joseph (2009) and Zilberman (1987). At the end of this research, it is understood that the children's literature, as a study object, is considered as a source of pleasure to the children, with important contributions to their integral development. In this way, the teacher is the mediator between children's literature and the child and, thus, s/he is an important part of this process, which needs to have a closer relationship with reading, so s/he can build inside the classroom readers able to act and reflect on situations that present for them and change them.
