Thus, this article aims to discuss the process of teaching and learning and provide educational strategies that are able to stimulate the child's interest by mathematical knowledge in the early years of elementary school. It gives a brief overview of the history of mathematics and its intrinsic relationship to the development of society, highlighting the trajectory of its insertion in the Brazilian school curriculum. It highlights the learning theory developed by Piaget emphasizing the formation of logical- mathematical knowledge , in addition to exposing facilitators ways, such as using concrete materials and recreational activities , to build a dynamic and meaningful learning . Os anos iniciais de escolarização são fundamentais para a formação da criança e desenvolvimento dos conceitos matemáticos. Assim, o presente artigo tem por finalidade discutir sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem e apresentar estratégias pedagógicas que sejam capazes de estimular o interesse da criança pelo conhecimento matemático nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental. Apresenta uma breve síntese da historia da matemática e sua relação intrínseca ao desenvolvimento da sociedade, destacando a trajetória de sua inserção no currículo escolar brasileiro.
