Resumo:This article intends to bring a reflection on the theme "Insertion and Adaptation of children at the beginning of school life", presenting as a locus of the research the Municipal Nursery Margarida Cunha, located in the city of Currais Novos - RN. It is also intended to analyze how the nursery prepares and organizes the environment to receive new children who will, for the first time, enter the school. In addition, we will reflect on the practices that fit and ease the first separation between a child and a family. In this sense, it is essential that the process of adaptation be thought and planned, both by the school and by the family that will go through this defining moment in their lives. For the purposes of this study, the following authors are identified as the main interlocutors: Gonçalves (2001); Martins Filho (2006); Rosseti-Ferreira (1998); Paro (1997); among others. Methodologically we adopted a qualitative research of bibliographical character, instrumented through a field research. Thus, the results indicated that the insertion and adaptation of the child in the day care center is a process that will require both the child who seeks to appropriate to this new reality in which she is inserting herself, as well as her parents and the institution, which needs be prepared to receive it. In this way, it is necessary to understand that each child is unique and has its peculiarities, so the process of insertion and adaptation is a constant challenge, since each child, when entering the school for the first time, habits and behaviors already established, as well as demonstrate their characteristics and needs in different ways. Thus, the period, are fundamental as the strategy that help the process of insertion and adaptation of children in the school environment.
