Resumo:The study aims to investigate on the spot the factors that interfere with learning, literacy training and literacy of students enrolled in the literacy cycle (1st to 3rd year) elementary school in the State School Dr. José Borges de Oliveira, in the municipality of Campo Redondo / RN. This research adopted a qualitative approach involving fieldwork with participant observation in the classroom into three groups and questionnaires with teachers of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year, educational coordination. For theme analysis study sought to the theoretical foundation in Smith (1998); Russian (2012); Franchi (2012), Mitchell (2012), Cagliari (2009), Volume pro literacy. After conducted study, we point out some of the factors that hinder the literacy process and information literacy: the non-participation of society, the social and economic conditions of students, lack of access to materials such as newspapers, magazines, and others that favor literacy. Not getting out social inequality, family breakdown and lack of dialogue, cause a huge gap between the parents and the school. Finally, we present suggestions to the teacher where besides mediator is a facilitator between the student and systematized knowledge, not despising all the baggage of previous knowledge brought by the students.
