The research aimed to identify the conceptions of literacy permeating the practice of Professor of Early Childhood Education, seeking to understand the influence of these conceptions in teaching practice, as well as contributing to generating discussions about literacy in early childhood education, in an attempt to focus on prospects and challenges faced by area teachers. The data were collected through direct observation, reports and questionnaire. The research is based on theoretical authors such as Freire (1996), Soares (2001), among others. In this sense, they are gathered aspects that seek to outline the practice of active teachers, the teachers do, with the focus on development of didactic classes and literacy process. O artigo apresenta o resultado de uma investigação realizada em uma Creche pertencente à rede municipal, na cidade de Caicó/RN. A pesquisa teve como objetivo identificar as concepções sobre Alfabetização que permeiam a prática do professor da Educação Infantil, buscando compreender a influência dessas concepções no exercício docente, além de contribuir para a geração de discussões acerca da alfabetização na Educação Infantil, na tentativa de focalizar perspectivas e desafios enfrentados pelos professores da área. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio da observação direta, relatos e questionário. A pesquisa tem base teórica em autores como Freire (1996), Soares (2001), dentre outros.
