Resumo:This paper aims to analyze the themes work, innovation and sustainability in companies located in productive arrangements of red ceramics in Rio Grande do Norte. The research starts from the hypothesis that local productive arrangements of red ceramic have significant economic and social importance. However, with regard to innovations focusing on sustainability and improvements in working conditions, these arrangements present significant limitations, like the local productive arrangement in Carnaúba dos Dantas/RN, which is one of the most expressive in the state. The methodology includes a bibliographic research on the approach in local productive arrangements (LPA) from the perspective of Local Productive and Innovative Systems and Arrangements Research Network (RedeSist/IE/UFRJ) and about Cerâmica Vermelha Brasil, as well as a field research emphasizing the themes of work, innovation and sustainability in companies of the LPA of ceramic in Carnaúba dos Dantas/RN. The results show a strong concentration of red ceramics companies in the state and reaffirms the importance of the activity since it generates around 15 thousand direct jobs. It involves approximately 190 companies and covers over 50 cities, focused on the region of Seridó (Parelhas-Carnaúba dos Dantas), followed by Vale do Açu and São Gonçalo. Regarding the work, innovation and sustainability, it is observed that despite the obstacles, the investigated companies continually seek to overcome them and have presented significant improvements, although this is a long process. Finally, it is assessed that the themes work, innovation and sustainability continue to challenge the companies present in the LPA, but in general, many of them seek to overcome the challenges and find opportunities for improvement by interacting including with other actors.
