Resumo:The subject of crime has always aroused interest in several areas of knowledge such as psychology, biology, law, sociology and economics which seek to understand and delimit the motivations that lead or not an individual to commit crimes. Several theories have been developed over time with the intention of achieving this end. Based on the methodology of research in the literature review, this paper aims to present a panorama of studies on crime with a more applied character within the Brazilian reality concerning the study done by Gary Becker (1968), one of the precursors of the idea about the rational choice of the criminal agent. Where, it is observed that the agent who commits crimes against equity acts in a rational way, since it observes low costs and relation to the opportunities and the returns arrive in a short period of time without needing big investments.
