| Resumo: | Joining the stock exchange has become an option for those who are interested in obtaining another source of income, or for those who wish to increase their own equity. Therefore, the examination of financial statements, together with the calculation and analysis of the results of financial performance indicators, may lead to a better decision on which company to invest in. For this reason, this paper seeks to establish, with the aid of financial statements, which financial and economic indicators best portray the company's performance on the stock exchange. Companies listed on the Brazil 100 Index – the most representative and tradable assets with the highest market capitalization on the Brazilian stock market, the Stock Exchange – were surveyed between the years 2016 to 2018. The statistical results show that, among the financial-economic and market indicators, the best performances are related to the investment return of the net equity obtained, and to the way in which an entity operates its debt liabilities. |
