Resumo:The administration of the sewage sludge originating from treatment stations is an activity of great complexity and high cost, that, if it goes badly executed, it can commit the environmental and sanitary benefi ts expected of these systems. The production of the sewage sludge in Brazil is among 150 to 220 thousand tons per year. Of the systems of waste treatment, stabilization ponds are the ones that they generate the smallest amount of sewage sludge, while activated sludge plants are the systems with the largest sludge volume to be treated. The principal objective of the treatment of the sewage sludge is to generate a stabilized product and with smaller volume to facilitate your handling and, consequently, to reduce the costs in the subsequent processes. Usually, the treatment of the sewage, after your generation, includes an or more of the following stages: thickening, stabilization, conditioning, dehydration and fi nal disposition
