Resumo: | The design of a multianchored retaining wall consists on the verification of safety conditions for the existing failure modes. The objective of this article is to analyze those conditions for a multi-anchored retaining wall model to be built in a sandy soil. This article begins with a theoretical review about the determination of lateral earth pressure and the Rankine theory. Furthermore, it discusses about the design failures that happened in subway construction sites during the nineteenth century, which used braced excavations. It also discusses the earth pressure diagrams acting on braced excavations and anchored retaining walls that had been proposed for avoiding future problems of the same nature. The factors of safety will be calculated for those four proposed diagrams. Additionaly, the Geo5 software has been used and, based on the Finite Element Method, provides a structural displacement analysis and the verification of anchors stability. Finally, this article highlights a comparison between the factor of safety calculated from those four different proposed diagrams, the displacement results and the anchor verifications that Geo 5 came up with. |
