Prospective study of the adoption of the electric cars in Natal and region. Powered by the serious increase of air pollution in recent decades on the Natal urban areas, combined with political and economic instabilities that affect the fuel market. The idea of a electric propulsion fleet deployment in the largest urban center in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) is supported by scientific bases provided by years of study and research into the involved areas. The state of the of Rio Grande do Norte is one of the largest clean energy producers in Brazil, exports energy to the industry of neighboring states and has international prominence in the scenario of wind energy in addition to its solar potential, which is internationally recognized. Electric vehicles (EV's) are presented as one of the leading and best alternatives to vehicles moved by liquid and gaseous fossil fuels, which are largely responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases. With the system deployment is expected improvements for the state economy and a large enhance in the quality of life of everyone in the state. Moreover, there is a hope that once the state RN make it, the lesson will be taken for all other units of the federation, so the nation can tread a better future for the Brazilians. Estudo prospectivo da adoção do carro elétrico em Natal e região. Toma-se como ponto de partida o grave aumento de poluição do ar nas últimas décadas, combinado com as instabilidades político-econômicas que afetam o mercado de combustíveis. A idéia de implantação de frota de propulsão elétrica no maior centro urbano do estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN) é apoiada em pilares científicos assegurados por anos de estudos e pesquisas nas áreas envolvidas. O estado do RN é um dos maiores produtores de energia elétrica limpa do Brasil, autossuficiente energeticamente, exporta para a industria de estados vizinhos, e é destaque internacional no cenário da energia eólica, além de seu potencial solar reconhecido internacionalmente. Os veículos puramente elétricos (EV’s), atualmente apresentam-se como uma das principais e melhor alternativas aos veículos movidos aos combustíveis fósseis líquidos e gasosos, que são os grandes responsáveis pela emissão de gases de efeito estufa. Com a implantação de sistema são previstas para o estado melhorias na economia e qualidade de vida dos Norte-Riograndenses.
