On the other hand, the transit network was not able to follow that growth, which resulted on bad services, discouraging people from using public transportation. Due to the need for improvement in the city’s mobility, this research proposes the construction of an underground bus station in the Salgado Filho Avenue, next to the malls Via Direta and Natal Shopping. The place was chosen due to the high traffic on the avenue, the large number of stores, schools and business centers on the surroundings and because of the great flow on the existing pedestrian bridge. The study had three main basis: the focus on public transportation by bus, the importance of active mobility and the station integration with the commercial center. An analysis of the current condition of the bus stops and the pedestrian bridge was made, in order to identify its problems and solve them in the station proposals. After the study of the site’s topography and blueprints, the accesses for busses and people were settled. Then, two layout proposals were made for the station using the software Autocad and Sketchup. O crescimento populacional associado ao aumento da renda da população fez com que a quantidade de automóveis e motocicletas na cidade de Natal crescesse bastante nos últimos anos. Por outro lado, a rede de transporte público não foi capaz de acompanhar este crescimento, apresentando um serviço precário, o que desestimula o seu uso. Dada a necessidade de melhoria na mobilidade da cidade, este trabalho propõe a construção de uma estação de transporte metropolitano na região em torno das paradas em frente aos shoppings Via Direta e Natal Shopping. O local foi escolhido por ser um dos principais corredores viários da cidade, com grandes polos geradores de viagens e um alto fluxo de pessoas pela travessia elevada de pedestres. O estudo foi pautado em três pilares, sendo eles: o foco no transporte coletivo por ônibus, a priorização da mobilidade ativa e a associação da estação a um centro comercial. Realizou-se a análise da situação atual das paradas de ônibus e da passarela, de modo a compreender os problemas existentes e solucioná-los nas propostas. A partir da observação da planta baixa e da topografia do local, foram definidos os pontos de acesso para ônibus e pedestres.
