Resumo:The earthquake is a natural or artificial phenomenon that originates inside the Earth and may occur by the movement of tectonic plates, by volcanic action or displacement of gas. The earthquake risk measures the relevance of earthquake for a given structural design and cannot be disregarded even in regions of low seismicity. The destructive capacity of a seismic wave not only depends on your intensity, but the population density. The consequences arising in buildings subject to seismic vibrations can cause considerable damage and even fatalities. However, projects can be developed with appropriate techniques to mitigate these effects. The objective of the present work is to study the effect of seismic action in structural projects that are in locations that present geological instability, as in Brazil, in the municipality of João Câmara, Rio Grande do Norte, which presents a seismic instability due to failure in the middle of a tectonic plate. The main reason for the existence of this instability are cracks called faults. Were studied brazilian standard NBR-15421 (earthquakes resistant structures project), which establishes the seismic hazard map of the entire Brazilian territory, indicating some regions should adopt the seismic effect on structural projects, and also the European standard (EUROCODE-8), which establishes a further detailing of the NBR-15421, presenting more refined techniques of sizing and a broader theory. It was concluded that the magnitude of an earthquake is relativized in accordance with local characteristics, i.e. the same earthquake may present a destructive potential different in other regions. It has been found that the efforts from the seismic waves focus on edification at your Foundation element, traveling later the whole structure, being generated requests depend on the type of seismic wave incident.
