Currently, traffic is a major cause of unnatural deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization only in our country, the Avante Brazil Institute estimates that since 1980 there were over 1,090,801 traffic deaths. In 2002 37,018 people died by the year 2013 this number increased to 60 752 deaths, pedestrians and motorcyclists being the main victims. It is, therefore, an increase of almost 65% of fatalities in traffic. Are there some professional able to control the growth of this number? The answer is positive, the traffic engineer is this professional who aims to identify the accidents, map them, so that you can determine the contributing factors to the route that these can be removed. The process is basically simple for these professionals. Is to focus efforts on critical points, in other words in places where accidents are concentrated with similar characteristics. Thus, the success of this procedure depends on an accurate register of accidents, as well as a thorough investigation of the data obtained from this register. With this approach to analyze the conditions of road safety, this work therefore consists in conducting a Road Safety Audit, the operating step, at Avenida Ayrton Senna, excerpt: Avenida Roberto Freire - Avenida Abel Cabral, in Natal , Rio Grande do Norte. Atualmente, o trânsito é um das principais causas de mortes não naturais em todo mundo, segundo dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Somente em nosso país, o Instituto Avante Brasil calcula que desde 1980 foram mais de 1.090.801 mortes no trânsito. No ano de 2002 morreram 37.018 pessoas, já no ano 2013 esse número passou para 60.752 mortes, sendo pedestres e motociclistas as principais vitimas. É, portanto, um crescimento de quase 65% das vítimas fatais no trânsito. Há algum profissional capaz de controlar o crescimento desse número? A resposta é positiva, o engenheiro de tráfego é esse profissional que tem o objetivo de identificar os acidentes, mapeá-los, de forma que seja possível determinar os fatores contribuintes da via para que esses possam ser removidos. O processo é basicamente simples para esse profissional. Consiste em concentrar os esforços nos pontos críticos, ou seja, nos locais onde os acidentes com características semelhantes se concentram. Assim, o sucesso desse procedimento depende de um cadastro preciso dos acidentes, bem como de uma investigação profunda dos dados obtidos desse cadastro.
