Resumo:For water supply systems to be planned and dimensioned, the behavior, characteristics and estimate of the population of the region to be supplied must be observed. Exceptional situations, such as the covid-19 pandemic that was declared in the WHO in March 2020, can drastically interfere in the habits of this population and consequently will have an impact on the region's water consumption with social isolation measures and restrictions on non-essential services. The present study proposes to survey the impact that the covid-19 pandemic caused on the water consumption profile in Natal, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, bringing data that contribute to the diagnosis of the network and ensure that the supply of water is not interrupted with the possible increase in consumption. The water volume data were extracted from the GSAN system, commercial management software adopted by CAERN and, in addition to them, the social isolation data available on the company's website IN LOCO were analyzed. Comparative analyzes of the volume billed between the year 2020 and the average two years before were carried out, as well as graphs of the evolution of consumption from January 2018 to December 2020. It was found that the Covid-19 pandemic did not bring drastic changes to consumption total for the year 2020, but impacted the consumption categories (commercial, industrial, public and residential) separately. Commercial and public consumption were the most affected by the pandemic, with a more pronounced decrease. Residential consumption was the only one to grow in the period, albeit insignificantly, due to the unsatisfactory levels of social isolation, which in Natal did not reach the minimum levels in any month of 2020.
