In parallel, the state of Rio Grande do Norte stops using the law from the 70’s and creates the State Code of Fire and Panic Protection (CESIP), completely new and updated, produced with the same patterns from legislations of São Paulo, which are acknowledged in any part of Brazil. Thus, the present term paper deals with prevention of fires in a residential building, focusing on adequacy propositions throughout the analysis of the Project on Fire Protection (PFP), following demands from the Technical Instructions of the Rio Grande do Norte State Military Firefighters’ Association. Towards that end, a study was conducted in the Jacumã Edifice, a building in an urban zone in the city of Natal, which has projects from the 80’s. The purpose in analysing this building is to verify divergences on the PFP between laws from back then and nowadays. According to inspections done in the area, it was proven that innumerable mistakes were made during the project and execution phases. In that regard, this paper term makes an adequacy proposition in relation to the security measures that were taken in the Jacumã Edifice, based on what is demanded by Technical Instruction Nº43/2018 - Adaptation of fire protection security standards - Existing buildings. In addition to that, this term paper has the goal to stipulate and reassure the importance of conducting more and more studies about projects related to fire and panic protection security, since a building with an inefficient PPCI represents a threat to the residents’ lives and their assets.

Frente aos incêndios em edificações que ocorreram recentemente, torna-se indiscutível o fato de que os prédios já existentes devem ter suas instalações repensadas e se tornarem alvos de estudos. Paralelamente, o estado do Rio Grande do Norte deixa de utilizar uma legislação da década de 70 e cria o Código Estadual de Segurança Contra Incêndio e Pânico (CESIP), totalmente novo e atualizado, produzido nos moldes das legislações do estado de São Paulo, que são referências em qualquer parte do Brasil. Com isso, o presente trabalho trata sobre a prevenção de incêndios em um edifício residencial, focando na adoção de propostas de adequação através da análise do Projeto de Proteção Contra Incêndio (PPCI), seguindo as exigências das Instruções Técnicas do Corpo de Bombeiros Militar do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo de caso no Edifício Jacumã, prédio da zona urbana da cidade de Natal, que possui projetos da década de 80. O intuito da análise desse edifício é verificar as inconformidades do PPCI em relação a legislação vigente à época de construção e a atual. A partir das vistorias realizadas no local, ficou comprovado que diversos equívocos foram cometidos na fase de projeto e de execução. Para tal, esse estudo traz uma proposta de adequação relativa às medidas de segurança do Edifício Jacumã, seguindo o que é exigido pela Instrução Técnica Nº 43/2018 – Adaptação às normas de segurança contra incêndio – Edificações existentes.
