Resumo:Environmental awareness has become increasingly present in world discourses and, therefore, one of the subjects much addressed is about the proper disposal of solid waste. However, it is the reality of many places that the presence of the dumps as an area of disposal of these wastes. An alternative still widely adopted to combat these dumps is the construction of controlled landfills by being economically cheaper, but it is known that this path is not ideal for a garbage disposal. This study aims to evaluate the behavior of two types of materials, a natural soil and an improved soil with an abundant bentonite, but because it does not have a high expansion power, it is treated as a waste by engineering. Within this study, an alternative structure composed by layers of cover associated with the bottom coating layers, also known as liners, will be proposed for the execution of controlled landfills so that they will present an efficiency that until then does not exist when avoiding the contamination of the natural soil, where the amount of solid waste is deposited, and consequently the contamination of the groundwater below the soil layer, while remaining an economically acceptable alternative to areas affected by inadequate waste disposal and that the construction of landfills appropriate to the needs of the region in which it would respond would be unfeasible.
