Resumo:The green roof is a structure that allows to support vegetation on the roof of a building. It is a constructive technique that has gained visibility on different fronts of study. Throughout the history of architecture, the green roof has been used with distinct motivations: initially with an aesthetic and recreational decision until, more recently, as an ecological and sustainable alternative. The benefits relation covers aspects such as the mitigation of heat islands and the abstraction and drainage of rainwater., the ability to mitigate floods places the technique as a possible political instrument. Even with an increasing space in theoretical studies, the technique still finds obstacles for its practical expansion. In this way, this work intends to carry out a bibliographical review that brings together the historical positioning, some benefits, application techniques and discusses the main obstacles.
