Resumo:The city of Natal, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, suffered during its construction and expansion in the space an unbridled urbanization process, with urban policies that favored the displacement of private transport in front of the collective public transport. Nowadays the public transport still doesn’t fit in an appropriate way in front of the city structure and constantly the road alterations don’t provide a restructuring that implies in specific improvements for this public transport. This work aims to analyze the situation of the public transport with focus on the North-South displacement axis of the Potiguar capital, which is responsible for the connection among the North Zone and other areas of the city, constituting an essential route in the road hierarchy and possessing high traffic demand. Then, this work proposed, in the form of a project, the use of a tramway line as an alternative to the current situation of a connecting route, demarcating the plan of this route with its peculiarities in the city's streets analyzing the technical situations, insertions in the space and viability.
