Resumo:It is known that cities are structurally dynamic: they are constantly changing from morphological, demographic and socioeconomic points of view. Over the last decades, the adoption of policies and the implementation of projects that benefited the car over other means of transportation have contributed to the tendency for medium-sized cities to show a trend towards polycentric structures - with the emergence of areas corresponding to new centralities -, from the traditional monocentric organization. The identification of these new centralities, whether by spatial extension of old ones or by new remote poles in relation to the traditional center, is extremely important for a more precise development of public policies of different areas, among them urban mobility. Understanding the dynamics of how, when and why dislocations occur between areas of the city is imperative to promote improvements and offer a better quality of life to the population. The city of Natal (RN) is deficient in studies that identify subcenters by analyzing variables that consider the daily trips performed by the population. In this context, this work aims to identify the centralities in force in Natal using spatial statistics applied to travel generation data obtained in the source-destination held in 2007. The results show an expansion of traditional centrality to the South and West, in addition to pointing out the emergence of remote centrality in the Northern Zone of Natal.
