Resumo:The high-speed rail (HSR) has been a mode widely explored by the major economies of the world, bringing passengers, speed, comfort and prices more affordable than air tickets. In Brazil, there is a project to implement the HSR between the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Campinas, but the high cost did not attract companies interested in implementing this modal. The monograph presents a basic study of the implementation of the high speed line in the Northeast, precisely in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Pernambuco. It is analyzed the competitiveness of the operating modes on the routes of the 4 states, in travel time and economically. It was verified that the frequency of up to 3 trains per route is sufficient to meet the demand of the airplane and the bus together in each route, besides the HSR obtain a financial return faster than the other modal ones. The cost of implementation was estimated in accordance with the HSR project between Rio and Campinas and values provided by the average overall cost of the DNIT.
