Resumo:The work evaluates the loss of water by evaporation in the Encanto Reservoir (RN). Evaporation was estimated by the Jensen-Haise empirical method and the results showed that, on average, the annual evaporation corresponds to approximately 45% of the maximum volume of the reservoir studied. Simulations were carried out to evaluate the time of emptying of the reservoir against a period of severe drought, considering different scenarios of initial reservoir volume. The results showed that the reservoir takes about 4 years and 4 months to dry completely, when the simulation starts with 100% of the maximum capacity and that the water level is dry at 2 years and 11 months for 50% of the volume of the reservoir. The evaporation in the Encanto reservoir is high and consumes a great part of the stored water, it was also observed underutilization of the reservoir, because the water consumption corresponds to small values, when compared with the evaporated volumes. The Encanto reservoir is an example of a small reservoir that should have the use of its waters optimized.
