description |
The objective of this study was to test a methodology for assessing the intake of artificial supplementation for Apis mellifera adult bees. For this, bees were collected from at least three Langstroth hives, in frames with emergent bees and taken to the EAJ / UFRN Entomology Laboratory, in wooden boxes and placed in a BOD greenhouse, where they remained at 32 ° C and 75% RH until the following day, when the one-day-old bees were obtained for testing in experimental cages. The artificial supplementation used in the research consisted of sugar syrup and pollen paste, which had their weights supplied and remaining. Evaluated every day (T1) and every two days (T2) during ten days of experimentation. Both treatments presented similar results at the end of the experiment, which demonstrates that over the ten days of the experiment, the bees remained alive, active, and consuming the artificial foods provided. The weighings of the food consumed showed no difference between the days the bees remained in the cages. Thus, the bees consumed both syrup and pollen paste proportionally throughout the days, with no significant variations in consumption between the early or late observation days. For this reason, it is up to the producer to choose which supply method fits his routine, and availability of manpower, in order to optimize the management of bees, as well as increase the production of hives during periods of natural food shortages. |

Validation of methodology for food supplement consumption tests for adult bees apis mellifera L. Anjos, Euclézia Jakeline de Souza Dias Mendonça, Gerbson Azevedo de Lira, Gunthinéia Alves de Lazzarini, Luiz Eduardo Santos Apis mellifera Artificial supplementation - consumption Suplementação artificial - consumo Manejo Management The objective of this study was to test a methodology for assessing the intake of artificial supplementation for Apis mellifera adult bees. 2019. 33 f.
