| Resumo: | The main objective of this study is to identify the conditions for the preservation and conservation of the Zila Mamede Central Library of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. In order to obtain answers to the questions of preservation and conservation of this unit, methodological resources were used as interviews and data collection of temperature, humidity and luminosity, as well as living in the dependencies of that library to find out about the daily practices of the various sectors in their daily work. Though it’s a case study. Thus, in the course of this research, it was verified that there is an awareness of the need to preserve and conserve the collection. However, due to the lack of a conservation and preservation policy and manual, practices in this regard still require considerable progress, as well as it is also necessary the presence of a professional with knowledge in the area so that the necessary steps are taken in the preparation of the policies and preparation of a manual to establish standardized measures in all sectors of the library. And in addition to this question, some interventions are also needed in the central building, as well as in the attached building to solve structural problems in them. Intervention proposals were presented to improve the current situation of the environmental conditions of BCZM, in order to preserve their several collections. |
