Resumo:Introduction: The success of endodontic therapy is associated with related factors such as access, preparation, disinfection, modeling and obturation of the root canal system. Cleaning and shaping are required to be performed along the entire root canal, especially in areas considered to be of high anatomical complexity. Objective: To perform an integrative literature review on instrumentation systems with rotary and reciprocating files in relation to cleaning capacity. Methodology: The literature search was performed from September 2018 to September 2019, using the descriptors: rotary, reciprocating, cleaning, modeling and root canal preparation, in the “advanced search” mode. The search criteria used were documents published from 2015 to 2019, the descriptors were crossed using the term AND according to the Boolean system and the search was performed on the Google academic search portal and MEDLINE databases. / PUBMED and LILACS. Exclusion criteria were publications that did not address the comparison between reciprocating and rotary file systems, and research involving endodontic retreatment, articles older than 5 years, and articles that did not have the established variables and descriptors of the work. Results: 884 articles were found in the literature, so after selection based on the exposed criteria, only 8 articles were selected. Conclusion: After analyzing some rotary and reciprocating systems available in the market, and evaluated in the studies selected for this integrative literature review, it can be conclude that there is no perfect system that stands out more than any other in relation to cleaning capacity.
