Ação antimicrobiana do extrato de lycium barbarum frente a microrganismos superinfectantes do ambiente bucal.
description Using of plants, extracts, and isolated metabolites is becoming very popular nowadays. Natural medicine does not acts only preventively, as also treats many diseases caused by resistant microorganisms. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial action of the vegetable extract of Lycium barbarum (gojiberry) on super infecting microorganisms founded in oral environment, as well as to characterize the chemical profile of the extract. To determination of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of Adherence (MICA), and bactericidal and fungicidal kinetics of the extract, Enterococcus faecalis(ATCC), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC), and Candida albicans (AB) were used. Each test was performed in duplicate and the same procedure was made to the positive control, chlorhexidine digluconate at 0,12%, and nystatin. To the statistical analysis at 5% significance level, t-Student or Mann-Whitney test was applied to the results lecture. The CCD analysis suggested the presence of phenolic acids, flavonoids, coumarins, and carbohydrates. Lycium barbarum presented bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity medium superior to the positive control of chlorexidine, and statistical significant dilution up to 1:4(125 mg/mL) and 1:16 (31,25 mg/mL) on Enterococcus faecalis ATCC and P. aeruginosa ATCC, respectively, and to 1:16 (31,25 mg/mL) to C. albicans (AB). The extract did not presented bactericidal and fungicidal action, however presented nonstick effect of dilution up to 1:32 (15,65 mg/mL) on P. aeruginosa ATCC. It may be concluded that Lycium barbarum presented significant antimicrobial action, justified by the pharmacological components, stimulating new researches about bioactive natural substances, to the treatment of persistent or refractory oral infections.

It may be concluded that Lycium barbarum presented significant antimicrobial action, justified by the pharmacological components, stimulating new researches about bioactive natural substances, to the treatment of persistent or refractory oral infections.
