Resumo:The present study analyzed the coinfection of Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus in the mouth environment of HIV/aids patients and some associated risk factors of the coinfection. For this, an observational and transversal study was performed. Forty-two individuals with HIV/aids in treatment in the Hospital Giselda Trigueiro were listed. The instruments of collection were clinical exams, saliva samples collected by an oral rinses and patients records. For data analyses, the qui-square test or Fisher’s exact was selected with a significance level of 10%. The results showed a coinfection of these microorganisms in 57% of the patients studied. There was a significant association between the coinfection and the use of prosthesis, visible plaque index and CD4 cell count. This high frequency of these pathogens potential in the mouth environment of the studied patients may be faced as a risk for their health. Therefore, it is important that actions related to their oral hygiene may be adopted and the HAART may be evaluated and, if it is necessary, it may be readjusted.
