Descrição
Resumo:The objective of this study was to evaluate the stability of the vertical dimension of occlusion in patients with full double prosthesis, relating it to the presence of bruxism and time of use of the prosthesis. 40 patients were selected rehabilitated with double denture during the period 2013-2014, at the Department of Dentistry, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The evaluation consisted of a collection of personal data, the prosthesis usage time information, collecting values of the vertical dimension of occlusion initial and final, as well as a questionnaire and physical examination specific to bruxism. A sample was observed with an average 64.40 ± 8.55 years, no individual which was diagnosed with bruxism. Considering the association between DVO and the time of use of dentures, there was no statistically significant result (p> 0.05). It can be concluded that the elderly have low prevalence of bruxism and artificial teeth have sufficient hardness to maintain the OVD stable for a long period of time of use of the prosthesis.
