Resumo:Introduction: Endodontic treatment aims to maintain the tooth functional. For the success of this therapy, it’s important to follow some mechanics and biologicals scientifics principles. This is directly related to the success or failure of the endodontic therapy. The preparation of root canal is the most important task of the therapy, in front of that, the choice of technique and material represents extreme importance. Objective: evaluate the degree of apical displacement in extension with three protocols: Mullaney technique, Gold wave (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) and X1 blue (MK Life, Porto Alegre, Brazil). Methodology: 30 mandibular molars were used, in which the mesiobuccal root was worked. Initially, the teeth were accessed and standardized in blocks of condensation silicone for evaluation of the angle and classification proposed by Schneider. After worked, the teeth were radiographed in the same blocks patterns. The results were compared statistically in BioStat 5.0 Software. Results: the statistical analysis showed that all groups had a failure (p <0.05) when the initial and final angles were compared. Conclusion: all instrumentation methods corroborated some degree of deviation of the root canal trajectory, however, in a descriptive analysis, the groups treated with automated instruments in nickel titanium showed best results when compared to the treatment with Mullaney technique.
