Resumo:Oral cancer is an unquestionable public health problem in Brazil and there many obstacles are still found for his effective confrontation. The objective of this work is to analyze a spatial distribution of oral cancer mortality rates and their association as socioeconomic conditions in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Norte, between the years 2005 and 2014. It’s an ecological study having exemplary elements of the municipalities of the state. The mortality data were obtained from the Atlas of Cancer Mortality - INCA, and those ones about the socioeconomic conditions through from the Atlas of Human Development in Brazil, all the maps were analyzed based on Moran Local and Moran Global indexes. Spatial dependence was observed in the distribution of oral cancer mortality rates in the state, but an association such as socioeconomic conditions was not found. The state shows a high rates of mortality due to this illness, and the socioeconomic indicators reflect mainly unfavorable living conditions, which explains the need for effective planning, monitoring and evaluation actions to deal correctly with this disease.
