Resumo:To evaluate the effect of contact of calcium hydroxide cements with polyacrylic and phosphoric acids on select physical and mechanical properties of chemically activated calcium hydroxide cements. Methods: Cement calcium hydroxide base (Life and Hydro C) were examined after exposure to different strategies: (1) contact with any substance, control; (2) washing with water and drying; (3) contact with polyacrylic acid (POL), washing with water and drying; and (4) contact phosphoric acid (FOS), washing with water and drying. The surface roughness, impact resistance, and release of hydroxyl ions (pH) were evaluated after 07 days storage in water. Data were statistically evaluated by ANOVA 2 factors and Tukey post-test (p <0.05). Results: The contact of acids with cement not statistically influences the values of the impact strength. FOS promoted statistically lower release of hydroxyl ions in both cements (p <0.05). The surface roughness Hydro C was statistically increased after contact with FOS (p <0.01) and decreased after the Life contact POL and FOS (p <0.01). Conclusion: While the FOS negatively affects the physical properties of the tested cements, POL interfered only in the roughness of Hydro C.
