Resumo:Purified water for pharmaceutical use is an extremely important input. The water purification involves several steps and various technologies can be used to accomplish this process. The purification treatment process used in the industry under study is divided into pre-treatment, treatment, storage and distribution and it is based on two equipments: a deionizer and a reverse osmosis. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency and performance of these equipments, making changes in the quantity of solvents used in the regeneration of the deionizer resins. For this, 4 regeneration tests were performed on ion exchange equipment with different amounts of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. With the results, it was possible to identify the optimum operating parameters for the evaluated equipment and it was also possible to achieve a reduction of 10 L of hydrochloric acid, representing a cost reduction of 25% in the total cost of purchase of this solvent.
