Resumo:A particular characteristic of nonionic surfactants is the cloud point, a property that allows the removal of metal ions and various organic compounds from aqueous effluents, such as phenol, which is found in effluents from various industries and causes irreversible damage to nature and human health. The nonionic surfactant is a biodegradable substance and has been used in the so-called Cloud Point Extraction process. The viability of this technique is proven in works found in the literature. Thepurpose of this work is to analyze the effects of concentrations of sodium salts, the influence of agitation speed and concentrations of phenol and surfactant at the cloud point of the nonylphenolethoxylated surfactants, Renex-120. A 2³ factorial design was used, allowing the determination of a significant mathematical model, which design the cloud point of the surfactant as a function of the stirring of the process, the concentration of phenol in the effluent, and the concentration of surfactant used. The response surface methodology allowed the optimization of the determination of the cloud point of the Renex-120 surfactant. The results also showed that the salt concentration contributed to the reduction of the cloud point of the studied surfactant, reducing the energy consumption of the process.
