| Resumo: | This study aimed to describe how family caregivers develop their care for elderly people with Parkinson 's disease (PD) in the city of Currais Novos / RN. This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative study that included family caregivers living in the city of Currais Novos, older than 18 years and who were primary caregivers. The data from the unstructured interviews were submitted to the analysis of thematic content and gave rise to eight thematic categories, which generally indicate that the diagnosis of the disease changes the routine of the family, since it usually requires a full time dedication of the caregiver Adaptation to the home environment so that it fits the elderly. Also listed were some reasons for becoming a caregiver, which involves feelings of gratitude and exchange, but also reveal overload for close family members. It is concluded that the primary caregiver is one who assists in the activities of daily living and who is usually someone who reports physical and emotional exhaustion, thus requiring support to share tasks, which involves both family help as well as qualified support By the basic health network. |
