Resumo:Objectives: The purpose of this study was investigate the association between adverse life conditions in childhood and teenager pregnancy in a sample of pregnant women of Trairí region, in Rio Grande do Norte state. Methods: It was a case-control study that interviewed 100 primigravida women, 50 adolescents (13-18 years) in the group of cases and 50 adults (23-28) in the control group, where they were questioned about socioeconomic adversities during childhood. To analyze associated factors with adolescent pregnancy, the Chi-square test and the Odds ratio were used, considering the 95% confidence interval. Results: There was a greater frequency of childhood adversities among adolescents than adults, with statistical significance only for the divorce of the parents in the first years of life. Conclusions: It is concluded that teenage pregnancy is related to worse conditions of life during childhood. Providing greater social support and reducing the occurrence of social adversities in families from poor localities may be a useful strategy for reducing teenage pregnancy rates.
