The vast majority of respondents demonstrated a still very limited understanding of the theme, emphasizing only the benefits that breastfeeding provides to the child. The pregnancy-puerperal process provided them with an experience marked by positive feelings, resulting from the emotional bond established between mother and child, but also negative due to the difficulties encountered in the midst of this process, which may interfere with the duration of breastfeeding. The support of family, friends and health professionals, added to the parent's own commitment to breastfeeding, are of paramount importance in facing the challenges related to this process and, consequently, avoiding early weaning.
