The objective of this study was to elaborate a narrative review of the literature regarding the first stage of the construction of a protocol of care and treatment for pressure injuries. This is a descriptive study of the methodological type for content construction. It was decided to make a narrative review of the literature on the care and treatments for pressure injury. The selection of the articles occurred in the period from 2017 to November 2018 in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (ScieLO), as well as research in Google Academic®, books, book chapters, and institutional protocols that dealt with the subject in question were also consulted. The review was built on six topics: Wound: concept; wound classification; healing process; Pressure Injury; Coverings; general considerations about pressure injury coverages. The proposal of this protocol, based on the reality expressed and mirrored in nursing care, will contribute substantially to a safe, quality, integral care that truly meets the health needs of patients, individually and collectively. Such a resource, when implemented effectively, can lead to uniform and continuous care. Objetivou-se elaborar uma revisão narrativa da literatura referente à primeira etapa de construção de um protocolo de cuidados e tratamento para lesões por pressão. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo do tipo metodológico para construção de conteúdo. Optou-se por fazer uma revisão narrativa da literatura sobre os cuidados e tratamentos para lesão por pressão. A seleção dos artigos ocorreu no fperíodo de abriu de 2017 a novembro de 2018 nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (ScieLO), além de pesquisa no Google Acadêmico®, livros, capítulos de livro e protocolos institucionais que versaram sobre o assunto em questão também foram consultados. A revisão foi construída em seis tópicos: Ferida: conceito; classificação de feridas; processo de cicatrização; Lesão por Pressão; Coberturas; considerações gerais sobre as coberturas para lesão por pressão. A proposta deste protocolo, fundamentado na realidade expressa e espelhado na assistência de enfermagem, contribuirá de forma substancial para um cuidado seguro, com qualidade, integral e que realmente atenda às necessidades de saúde dos pacientes, de forma individual e coletiva.
