The articles were taken from the following databases: SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE, CINAHL and PUBMED. We obtained 1,800 articles, when the inclusion criteria were applied by publication period between 2011 and 2016, 568 articles remained. After reading the summaries of these 568 articles we saw that: 136 were unavailable; 363 had sampling and / or universe incompatible with the theme; 44 were secondary studies (bibliographic review) and; 14 were repeated. Thus, we obtained 11 potentially relevant articles for analysis through integral reading, in which 10 of these articles were selected to be part of the review. It is necessary to understand nurses and their role in the protagonism of normal birth, corroborating with the promotion and continuity of programs that stimulate their work in childbirth and puerperium care. Considering the positive results under the perception of the women attended by these professionals, presented in this review. Este estudo trata-se uma revisão integrativa, que tem como objeitvo agrupar, sintetizar e avaliar criteriosamente os resultados de pesquisas relevantes, acerca de um objeto de estudo. A pesquisa nas bases de dados foi realizada entre os dias 19 de outubro e 20 de novembro de 2016 utilizando os seguintes descritores: “Enfermagem Obstétrica”; “Assistência de Enfermagem” e “Satisfação do paciente”, elegidos no Decs e MESH. Os artigos foram retirados nas seguintes bases de dados: SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE, CINAHL e PUBMED. Obtivemos 1.800 artigos, quando aplicados os critérios de inclusão por período de publicação entre os anos 2011 e 2016 restaram 568 artigos. Após a leitura dos resumos destes 568 artigos vimos que: 136 estavam indisponíveis; 363 possuíam amostragem e/ou universo incompatível com o tema; 44 eram estudos secundários (revisão bibliográfica) e; 14 estavam repetidos. Assim obtivemos 11 artigos potencialmente relevantes para analise através da leitura integral, no qual 10 destes artigos foram selecionados para fazer parte da revisão. Faz-se necessário compreender o enfermeiro e o seu papel no protagonismo do parto normal, corroborando com o fomento e a continuidade de programas que estimulem a atuação destes na atenção ao parto e puerpério.
