| Resumo: | The following study aimed to analyze the nurses’ performance in providing assistance to the parturient at habitual risk and to the complications and obstetric complications. The research was qualitative, of exploratory-descriptive type, and the data collection was carried out by means of individual semi-structured interviews, performed with obstetrician and generalist nurses working in preterm room, delivery room and joint house in three public maternity hospitals at the county of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte. The data were analyzed using the content analysis methodology. From the analysis inferred that during the obstetric care, the nurses prioritize the humanized assistance to the parturient. However, this care is interrupted, once the direct assistance is destined to the medical team, which, doesn’t recognize the nurse practitioner as also responsible for this procedure. The nurses point out difficulties in the assistance to the parturient who presents intercurrences, requiring a better organization in this service. |
