Resumo:The main objective was to identify the Nursing Diagnoses related to the independence of elderly patients with Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (DCNT) and, as a secondary objective, the independence of the elderly was evaluated through the Katz Index. Exploratory-descriptive study, transversal and quantitative approach. It was carried out in Santa Cruz / RN, with data collection between July and September of 2017, with the elderly population being affected by CNCD. The sample consisted of 138 elderly individuals aged between 60 and 100 years, with the majority female (75.4%), married (47.1%), with 6 or more children (43.5%) and residing with more than one person (56.5%); 86.3% had 1 to 3 morbidities and, in general, reported ability to perform basic activities of daily living independently. The most recurrent Diagnosis were functional urinary incontinence and self-care deficit for dressing. There was no statistical association between dependence and number of morbidities.
