Resumo:This study sought to understand the feelings involved in the process of being home caregiver of a person without therapeutic possibility of cure. It is a study of exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach. Participants were seven caregivers residing in the Central neighborhood, DNER and Canon Monte in the municipality of Santa Cruz/RN. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and used to thematic content analysis. Five categories were identified: Reasons for become caregiver; Feelings of being caregiver; Difficulty faced in caregiver; Family support, social and health team to the caregiver and the preparation to become caregivers. Therefore, caring for a patient without therapeutic possibility of cure has been a task that triggers conflicting feelings. Finally, it suggests the adoption of public policies and actions to strengthen the attention and care to patients without therapeutic possibility of cure in their own homes.
