Resumo:New alternatives for nitrite identification have been gaining prominence as this is a pollutant commonly found in different matrices such as water, food and agroindustry, consequently causing damage to human health and the environment. Chemically modified electrodes can be a great choice for nitrite identification as they increase selectivity and sensitivity compared to conventional electrodes. Thus, in this paper the synthesis and characterization of the biopolymeric Schiff base (QP / OV) formed from the reaction between chitosan and ortho-vanillin and from this, a copper complex (Cu / QP / OV) which It was also characterized by the techniques of infrared vibrational spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and ultraviolet and visible electron spectroscopy. The application and suitability of this compound as a working electrode chemical modifier was tested in order to use it to identify nitrite using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The obtained answers showed that the modified electrode developed has great performance in the identification of nitrite even in low concentrations, and can be improved and subsequently tested in real samples.
