description This TCC work in art history area, is the project "Atelier Center of Plastic Arts", introduced in the 80s by Sub-coordenadoria Cultural Activities SAC, SEC, Government RN. From the testimony of the experience of the author of this work as a student through graphic primary sources, literary and journalistic, exploratory survey of the institution is done. After historical background to present the 60s and 70s, in which is related to precursor institutions such as the Little School of Cândido Portinari painting - MEA, and GRUPEHQ, taken as inspiring factors for its creation, pointing it as an art school of great importance in art history at the RN, and this is verified by both the description of infrastructure aspects, management and dissemination, but above all for the many services the cultural life of Christmas in the form of a generation of talented and experienced artists it generated . There is still this study, examples of the method of work, commitment and pedagogical quality of its faculty describing characteristics of educators, artistic production of students, data on holding exhibitions, outreach activities and cultural partnerships. We conclude exposing the decentralization of artistic practices that resulted in the final deactivation of this Art School. As final element, a photo gallery of alumni with brief descriptions of the method, and sources consulted is presented, emphasizing the importance of this workshop in the course of production and teaching of visual arts in RN. Above, listing some developments on the part of former students, who took after deactivation of the study institution.

O presente trabalho de TCC, na área de História da Arte, trata do empreendimento “Atelier Central de Artes Plásticas”, implantado na década de 80 pela Sub-coordenadoria de Atividades Culturais SAC, SEC, Governo do RN. A partir do testemunho da experiência do autor deste trabalho como aluno por meio de fontes primárias gráficas, literárias e jornalísticas, é feito o levantamento exploratório sobre a instituição. Após apresentação de pano de fundo histórico dos anos 60 e 70, nos quais é relacionado com instituições precursoras como a Escolinha de Pintura Cândido Portinari – MEA, e GRUPEHQ, tidos como fatores inspiradores para a sua criação, apontando-a como uma escola de arte de grande importância na História da Arte no RN, sendo isto verificado tanto pela descrição de aspectos de infraestrutura, administração e divulgação, mas, sobretudo, pelos muitos serviços prestados a vida cultural de Natal na forma de uma geração de talentosos e experientes artistas por ela gerados. Há ainda, neste estudo, exemplos do método de trabalho, empenho e qualidade pedagógica do seu corpo docente com descrição de características dos educadores, produção artística dos alunos, dados sobre realização de exposições, atividades de extensão e parcerias culturais. Conclui-se expondo o processo de descentralização das práticas artísticas, que resultou na desativação definitiva desta Escola de Arte. Como elemento derradeiro, apresenta-se uma galeria de fotos de ex-alunos com breves descrições dos mesmos, além de fontes consultadas, enfatizando a relevância desse Atelier no percurso da produção e do ensino das artes visuais no RN.
