Resumo:The recovery of eutrophic aquatic systems is a very important measure to ensure water quality for multiple uses. Therefore, controlling eutrophication is extremely important. One solution is the floc & lock technique, which uses coagulants and clays to remove phosphorus and inactivate it in the sediment. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate on an experimental scale the effect of the application of polyaluminum chloride (PAC) and Tanfloc (TAN) and natural bentonite clays (BEN) and modified with lanthanum (BML) in the mitigation of eutrophication in the Epitácio reservoir Pessoa - PB, through the inactivation of phosphorus in the sediment. Sample collection was carried out in January 2018 for the initial characterization and sediment capping experiment. It was possible to verify that PAC and BML had better efficiency compared to other products. However, the isolated use of PAC was sufficient to reduce the phosphorus flux from the sediment. This shows that the PAC would be an alternative to lower the costs of restoring the environment. Thus, the technique proved to be efficient in mitigating eutrophication.
