Made possible through remote sensing satellite images, such as the LANDSAT-8 used in the study, the EST allows for spatializing the temperature throughout the study area and, therefore, analyzing the most and least heated strips in the area. This work aims to analyze the surface temperature in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, in order to draw a parallel between the results of EST obtained with the landscape configuration of the city, its most urbanized portion and the most environmentally conserved part. Nas últimas décadas, as possíveis causas para o aumento da temperatura média global vêm sendo discutidas nos grandes eventos que reúnem chefes de Estado de países do mundo todo; haja vista, a preocupação com o derretimento das calotas polares, aumento do nível dos oceanos, redução da qualidade vida no planeta, etc. Desde meados da década de 80 o estudo da Temperatura da Superfície Terrestre (TST) vem ganhando força no meio acadêmico, como um método de se estudar a dinâmica da temperatura no planeta para além da temperatura do ar. Possibilitado por meio de imagens de satélites de sensoriamento remoto, caso do LANDSAT-8 utilizado neste estudo, a TST permite espacializar a temperatura em toda a área de estudo e, com isso, analisar as faixas mais e menos aquecidas do local.
