Resumo:This academic paper titled: "The teacher and the deaf student literacy process" was born from the need to investigate how this process happens literacy of deaf students and aims to investigate the teacher's role before this process to also identify methods that are used for this happening. For this work was done we use the qualitative method, book readings and case study. In the theoretical, methodological basis, we maintain a dialogue with works of researchers who have productions in this field, including, Soares (1999), Mazzota (1996), Stainback (2006), Soares (1998), Soares (1998), among others. This research led to the identification of methodologies for literacy process of deaf students, which reproduce from a dedicated practice for an interactional environment that associates the concrete to the abstract through the oral language and sign language, besides the behavior adopted by educator and trainer.
