Through the activity, social, economic and cultural development is noticeable. The present study is exploratory-descriptive and with a qualitative approach, dealing with an analysis about the carnival festivity in Natal/Rio Grande do Norte, which aims to understand how the event has become a tourist attraction. The event has a history marked by a hiatus, which separates the golden days of carnival festivities and the resumption of the event in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, which, currently, has been attracting an expressive number of revelers and, thus, reinserting itself in the tourist route of events of this nature. The following data collection techniques were adopted: documentary research on the event; bibliographical research on the themes of events, carnival and tourist attractiveness; application of questionnaires, on the days of the event, in person, with revelers, and also online; in addition to participant observation. It is concluded that the event, each year, has been increasing and becoming an attractive festivity for the local resident and a tourist attraction for demands from other locations. Its multicultural character becomes an identity of the event, which addresses all musical and cultural styles, thus becoming a potentially promising event in the tourism field. O turismo de eventos desempenha papel relevante para o desenvolvimento e divulgação de um destino. Por meio da atividade, é perceptível o desenvolvimento social, econômico e cultural. O presente estudo é de carater exploratório-descritivo e com abordagem qualitativa, tratando-se de uma análise acerca da festividade carnavalesca em Natal/Rio Grande do Norte, que objetiva entender de que maneira o evento se tornou um atrativo turístico. O evento tem seu histórico marcado por um hiato, que separa os áureos tempos de festividades carnavalescas e a retomada do evento na capital potiguar, a qual, atualmente, vem atraindo um número expressivo de foliões e, assim, reinserindo-se na rota turística de eventos dessa modalidade. Foram adotadas, como técnicas de coleta de dados: a pesquisa documental sobre o evento; pesquisa bibliográfica sobre as temáticas de eventos, carnaval e atratividade turística; aplicação de questionários, nos dias do evento, presencialmente, com os foliões, e também de forma online; além da observação participante. Conclui-se que o evento, a cada ano, vem se incrementando e se tornando uma festividade atrativa ao morador local e um atrativo turístico para demandas de outras localidades.
