Resumo:With the publication of the National Solid Waste Policy, which created guidelines and instruments for the management of solid waste, the waste from the Public sanitation Services (RSB) was defined. The expansion of the sanitation sector stimulated the growth of the main activities that generate these residues, mainly constituted by service providers working in the water supply and sanitary sewage sectors. Such residues can potentially be polluters if not adequately managed, causing environmental degradation and affecting the health of living beings. The evaluation of the current situation of the management of these residues in Brazil was developed through documental and bibliographic research in the main information bases with the organs acting on the topic and in technical publications the survey of the data Related to the RSB. After the organization of the information it was possible to verify the lack of consolidated data in the main national systems on this typology, revealing the state plans of solid waste as the main source of data on the RSB. This indicates the lack of control of variables and planning in the public sphere, resulting in deficient public policies and failures in management systems. Despite data deficits, specific initiatives were identified in the country regarding the use of RSB in productive processes, such as composting and energy utilization.
