Description
Summary:With the rapid growth of the population and the uncontrolled increase of solid waste, concern with the environment is increasingly present in the discussions and daily life of society, making it necessary to take action to control this excessive production of waste. In order to have good solid waste management, the process must occur properly following the stages of its management which are: segregation, packaging, identification, collection, storage, transportation and disposal or final disposal. Thus, this study aimed to propose a Solid Waste Management Plan (PGRS) at the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Services - SEMSUR, the department responsible for public cleaning and lighting of the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante. This work was carried out in three stages. Initially, a literature review was conducted on the topic of solid waste management. The second was based on a diagnosis of solid waste management (SR) generated in the department. Based on this research, it was possible to identify SEMSUR irregularities regarding the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). The third stage aimed at proposing actions and programs aimed at the reduction, reuse and environmentally appropriate disposal of solid waste. Thus, the implementation of PGRS in the Secretariat made it possible to evaluate the form of solid waste management, showing possibilities for its correction based on current legal requirements and effectively contributing to the reduction of negative environmental impacts.
